Dust jacket with color pictorial front panel and spine illustrated by artist Peter Rudland; light toning to spine; foxing and soiling to white rear panel; short tears, scuffs/nicks, and slight bumping at edges; light foxing to flaps; front flap retains publisher's printed price at bottom right; dj now presented in a mylar Brodart protector. Green boards; spine ends bumped. Toning/foxing to text block edges and endpapers; some toning/foxing to pages adjacent to plates but interior leaves otherwise mostly remain clean. Binding is firm. Translated from the original Swedish by M.A. Michaels. Uncommon book in which Swedish ethnographer Gustaf Bolinder examines "the secret societies of Sierra Leone and Liberia, human sacrifice and cannibalism among the peoples of the Niger delta, the powerful witch doctors of South Africa" (from the Foreword).
