Booklet - Unbound Pages. Condizione: Very Good. The indenture, dated 2 March 1469, outlines the regulations governing the minting of coinage in the Tower of London. It details the weights and standards of coins, including the groat, which was reduced from 60 grains to 48 grains in Edward IV's reign. The document also specifies t…he responsibilities of the Master of the Mint, ensuring the quality and consistency of the currency. The article provides insights into medieval monetary policy, discussing the engraving of dies, the marks used on coins, and the economic implications of these regulations. It also highlights the political significance of Lord Hastings, a loyal supporter of the House of York, who was later executed by Richard 3rd. 15 pages. An authentic standalone article, extracted from a larger volume of Archaeologia, Miscellaneous Tracts relating to Antiquity. Not a reprint or reproduction, but an original work in its own right. Preserved in a modern card cover, prepared for practicality - an unassuming but serviceable presentation that favours function over finery. Size: 25 x 30 cms. Category: Archaeologia; Cosmo Books : 29 years on ABE, 47 years taking care of customers. A bookseller you can rely on.

Vellum Deed. Condizione: Good. Frances, Atkinson's wife before marriage was Frances Langley. Lands referred to are: Lisnamrock, Knockanlane, Clashduff, Williamstown, Knockbrack quarter, Tedenmore, Curraghhenduff, Springfield, Gortacannrish, Ballykerrin, & more. Interestingly the deed indicates that the lands include coal mines &… collieries. The coalfields of Slieveardagh were operated privately by local farmers & landowners in this area of Tipperary for about 400 years from around the first 30 years of the 17th century up to about 1825. If there was an outcrop on their land they mined it. It has been recorded that up to a 1000 men worked 35 mines up to this time. They brought some prosperity and security to many people in this part of Tipperary at the time. About 1824 the mines were operated under an Act of Parliament by the Mining Company of Ireland. They were kept open at a loss during the famine years. The coal mining industry in Tipperary petered out in the 1980's. This document is a primary research item.

Hardcover. Condizione: Good. A printed manuscript apprentice indenture on parchment, with manuscript entries for the apprentice and his employer, signed by them both. Sl soiled & blemished. ******** Under the Merchant Seamen, etc, Act 1823, Masters of British merchant ships of 80 tons and over were required to carry a given numb…er of indentured apprentices. These had to be duly enrolled with the local Customs Officer. These provisions were extended by the Merchant Seamen Act 1835 which provided for the registration of these indentures. In London they were registered with the General Register and Record Office of Seamen and in other ports with the Customs officers who were required to submit quarterly lists to the Registrar General. From 1844, copies of the indentures were sent to the Registrar General, and although compulsory apprenticeship was abolished in 1849 the system of registration was maintained.
