The Indian Motorcycle Co. began as the Hendee Manufacturing Co., and then changed the name to the Indian Motocycle Manufacturing Co. in 1928, and went bankrupt in 1953. Eventually Polaris purchased the rights to the name and moved the manufacturing facilities to Minnesota and Iowa, and revived the famed brand.
