Neuer Pappebd. m. aufgezogenem Orig.-Umschlag (dieser fleckig). * Schöne und seltene Erstausgabe des Klavierauszugs, aus dem Besitz des Künstlers Carloz Schwabe, der die Ausstattung der Oper betreute und die -hier als Frontispiz verwendete- Lithographie mit einer Szenendarstellung der Oper schuf. Mit eigenhändiger Widmung des Komponisten an Schwabe auf dem Vorsatz. Zwischen Schmutztitel u. Vorsatz montiert ein von d`Indy eigenh. verfaßtes Szenario der Oper (kl-8°, 6 S.), ferner nach dem Vortitel vier eigenh. an Schwabe gerichtete Briefe, die sich auf die Oper beziehen und zwar vom 5. Juillet 1895 (Vosges), 3 S. in kl.-8°, vom 19 Septembre 1895 (Ardèche), 3 S., v. 1r Aout 1895 (Boffes, Ardèche), 2. S., Bleistiftskizze zum Bühnenaufbau u. weitere vier Seitem zum Szenario des dritten Akts der Oper, v. 8 Novembre 1895, 3 S. Ferner ist auf die vakante Rückseite des Frontispiz eine eigenhändig v. d`Indy beschriftete Visitenkarte montiert. Ein einmaliges Dokument zum Schaffensprozess dieser Oper. - Vincent D'Indy (1851-1931) entstammte einer französisischen Adelsfamilie und war zunächst -wie übrigens auch Debussy- Harmonieschüler von Albert Lavignac. Durch seine Freunde und Lehrer Henry Duparc und César Franck wurde er mit der deutschen Opernmusik, insbesondere der Musik Richard Wagners, vertraut gemacht. Schließlich machte ihn ein Besuch der Bayreuther Festspiele 1876 zum überzeugten Wagnerianer. - Mit seiner Oper "Fervaal", deren Entstehung sich aufgrund von Konzertreisen des Komponisten über rund sechs Jahre erstreckte (1888-1895), wollte der Komponist ein französisches Pendant zur deutschen Nationaloper Wagners schaffen. Bewusst entschied er sich für den keltischen Stoff der Romanze "Axel" von Esaias Tegnér von 1822 - musikalisch finden sich vor allem Bezüge zu Wagners Parsifal. - Die Uraufführung fand am 12. März 1897 am Théâtre de la Monnaie in Brüssel statt, die Pariser Erstaufführung dann 1898. Einband etwas fleckig. …
