Aggiungi al carrelloHardcover. Condizione: Very Good. No Jacket. 1st Edition. Burgundy leatherette with mild rubbing wear at the corners and a few small areas along the spine. Previous owner signature on the front free endpaper. 242 pages, illustrated. The Willis-Inman Debate of 1966 was a significant theological exchange within the Churches of Chr…ist regarding institutionalism and congregational autonomy. The discussion featured Cecil Willis of Marion, Indiana, and Clifton Inman of Parkersburg, West Virginia, and took place in two parts: first in Parkersburg (September) and later in Dayton, Ohio (October/November). The debate centered on whether it was scripturally authorized for local churches to fund and work through outside organizations. They discussed the "sponsoring church" model, specifically focusing on the Herald of Truth radio and television program. The status of orphan homes as separate human organizations receiving church funds was a major point of contention. Cecil Willis (Institutionalism Opponent) argued that the New Testament does not authorize churches to send money to human organizations or other churches to do the work of the church. He contended that such practices violate the principle of congregational independence. Clifton Inman (Institutionalism Proponent) maintained that churches could scripturally cooperate to support benevolent works. He argued that when a church funds an orphan home, it is helping the children rather than the organization itself. The debate was considered highly professional and was eventually published in this book form in 1968. B48.
