Hardcover. Condizione: Near Fine. Very Good dj. Fireside Theatre BCE. [minor dust-soiling to top edge, otherwise no significant wear to book; jacket moderately browned at spine and edges, tiny irregular closed tear at bottom of front panel, short split at top front foldover]. (3 B&W photographs by Fred Feld) The play that made Andy Griffith a star, in the role of a country hick who's drafted into the peacetime Air Force and inadvertently raises the blood pressure of his platoon sergeant, just by bein' his reg'lar self. Hyman's original novel was first adapted as a live TV production in 1955, followed by a Broadway version later the same year, a film adaptation in 1958, and finally in extremely short-lived TV series in 1964; all incarnations except the last-named starred Griffith (who by 1964 was playing yet another slightly idealized version of himself on "The Andy Griffith Show"). The stage production, documented by the three photographs in this edition, also marked the Broadway debut of Don Knotts (although he's not shown in any of the photos). NOISBN.…

Revised Shooting script for the 1993 neo-noir film. Working copy belonging to screenwriter Joe Eszterhas, with his substantive annotations in manuscript ink to the front and rear wrappers and four pages of the script. Included with the script are 36 undated, nonconsecutive typescript leaves, likely Eszterhas' revision pages or part of an earlier draft, with editorial annotations in manuscript ink throughout. Based on the 1991 erotic novel by Ira Levin, about a young book editor who is enmeshed in a murder mystery after moving into a New York high-rise apartment building. The film was heavily reedited before release in order to avoid an undesirable NC-17 rating, ultimately culminating in changes to both the killer's identity and the ending scene. The script on offer presents the original ending of the film, in which Carly and Zeke fly in a helicopter over a volcano in Hawaii, having burned Zeke's videotapes. Tan titled wrappers. Title page present, dated 9/28/92, with credits for Levin, Eszterhas, and director Phillip Noyce. 126 leaves, with last page of text numbered 119. Xerographic duplication, rectos only, with rainbow revision pages throughout, dated variously between 9/28/92 and 10/23/92. Pages Near Fine, wrappers Very Good plus, front wrapper partially detached from the binding. Bound with two gold brads.…
