Using original survey data from students of the International College of Continuing Education in Almaty, Kazakhstan, the study applies quantitative methods, including regression and instrumental-variable analysis. Two hypotheses are tested: that students' motivation is mainly driven by academic performance, and that gender is the key determinant of textbook evaluation. The results do not robustly support either hypothesis. Academic performance loses explanatory power once endogeneity is addressed, while gender does not systematically affect textbook evaluation. Instead, motivation is most strongly associated with foreign language learning and perceived textbook quality, whereas textbook evaluation remains largely subjective. Methodologically, the book highlights the limits of standard regression models in small-sample education research and demonstrates the value of instrumental-variable approaches. Substantively, the findings suggest that textbooks support economics education primarily by reinforcing student motivation.…
