Dort wird sie Anfang des Jahres 1902 Schülerin von Wassily Kandinsky und 1903 seine zunächst heimliche Verlobte.…Die Jahre mit Kandinsky sind nicht nur für Münter und ihre künstlerische Entwicklung prägend. Bis zu ihrer Trennung 1916 überschlagen sich die Ereignisse - auch in der Kunstszene, und hier spielen beide eine entscheidende Rolle. In München und im oberbayerischen Murnau, wo sie sich nach vier Jahren ausgedehnten Reisens - Holland, Tunis, Rapallo, Sèvres - niederlassen, finden sie zu einem neuen, expressiven Malstil, der unter dem Namen der 1911 gegründeten Künstlergruppe "Der Blaue Reiter" Kunstgeschichte schreiben wird. Der Photographie bleibt Münter weiterhin treu: Sie hält die Stationen der Reisen fest, photographiert Kandinsky - und er sie -, Künstlerfreunde wie Marc, Jawlensky und Marianne von Werefkin, ihr Haus in Murnau, die Ausstellungen des "Blauen Reiter". Und sie benutzt ihre Photos jetzt häufig als Vorlagen für ihre Zeichnungen, Druckgraphiken und Gemälde. Band 2 des Bestandskatalogs zu Münters photographischem Werk - Band 1 war ihrer Amerikareise 1899-1900 gewidmet - begleitet wieder eine Ausstellung im Lenbachhaus München (10.2.-3.6.2007).
