L'intento di Ossequente era quello di evidenziare ancora la fondatezza delle superstizioni pagane. I prodigi raccolti sono riferiti cronologicamente in un contesto storico e si presentano ad una classificazione piuttosto vasta. Figurano innanzi tutto fenomeni di presunta origine cosmica ed astronomica. Sono poi da segnalare i fatti inerenti aal'idrosfera e alla geodinamica terrestre.
