Rooted in the romantic outpourings of Preseren, Gragoric, and Jenko, it traces the evolution of themes and styles within the Slovenian literary landscape. From the lyrical meditations of Medved, Levstik, and Zupancic to the evocative reflections of Funtek and Sardenko, this anthology presents a diverse array of voices. The poets explore the nuances of love, nature, longing, and identity, weaving a rich tapestry that reflects both the personal struggles and collective aspirations of the Slovenian people. Through their words, they create a vivid portrait of a nation's heart and soul, capturing the essence of its history and its enduring cultural legacy. One of the first Slovene Expressionist poets, his debut book of poetry (Poezije), released in 1919, would be the very first Slovene verse collection published in the US.
