1 volume, oblong 8vo (210 x 265 mm), comprising [24] leaves, each containing 4 photographs (95 x 65 mm) and 1 additional photograph (110 x 65 mm) glued to the back of the rear cover. A total of 97 photographs. Full red percaline cloth binding with cold-stamped spine and corners, ornate title "Kodak Souvenirs" on the front cover, blank spine. A beautiful album containing 97 photographs from a trip to Sudan in 1904. This refers to French Sudan, a French colony established in West Africa from 1890 to 1958, which was part of the French West African Federation. The itinerary of this trip is a loop starting from Bamako (Mali) and passing through Sikasso (Mali), Korhogo (Ivory Coast), Odienné (Ivory Coast), Kankan (Guinea), and Siguiri (Guinea) before returning to Bamako. A handwritten note on the title page reads: "To Messrs. Buchau, father and son, & Teisfevre, of Saint Louis. Souvenirs of my trip to Sudan, Oct. 1903Sept. 1904. Respectfully yours, Orthez, December 1, 1906." This dedication, along with several photographs depicting Buchau Teisfevre buildings taken during the trip, suggests that the author of this album was a member of one of these families established in French Sudan or a close relative. The photographs include landscapes, dwellings, portraits of local people, and scenes of daily life, such as: "Panorama of Bamako," "The Bamako Bridge, a flotilla used for transport to Kankan," "The Bamako Mosque," "A section of the Bamako market. Its butcher shop," "My hammock and my porters," "The Buchau Teisfevre building, viewed from inside the building; rubber porters. Husband and wife," "Road from Korhogo to Bambougou," "View taken at the Bambougou market," "View of the Cofca building. French African Trading Company," "The Bambougou Mosque," "Road to the Outpost [in Odienné]. The outpost in the background. In the middle, a chieftain's grave," "Food vendors at the market," "The market in Kankan," "The Niger River at Siguiri, Washerwomen." Well-preserved album.
