Clean, square, tight, and unmarked (but for a small spot on front endpaper). No owner's name or bookplate. Pages are clean, crisp, and creamy white. The colorful dust jacket (protected by a removable mylar sleeve) is bright, but has several small edge chips reinforced with clear-tape. Bound in the original, pictorial tan boards, decorated in brown on the front cover and spine. Sharp corners. The full-color dust jacket art is unsigned, but according to Zeuschner is by C. Edmund Monroe, Jr. Cover art, and endpaper maps of Africa are by Rafael Palacios. There are 12 interior b/w illustrations by J. Allen St. John. First published in 1950 at $1.00, this printing was issued in 1955 at $1.25. There was also a 1958 impression, but it lacks the endpaper maps by Palacios. Heins JT-8. Zeuschner 223.
