Johann Georg Heinzmann (1757-1802) war als Buchhändler und Autor tätig, wobei sich viele seiner Bücher aus anderen Werken und Zitaten verschiedener Autoren zusammensetzten, ohne dass diese als Quellen genannt wurden. Er verfasste Sammelwerke wie die Litterarische Chronik" (1785-1788), in d…er er sich aus verschiedensten Quellen bediente und damit auch seine Kritiker auf den Plan rief oder später (Heinzmann lebte inzwischen seit 1789 in Bern) das Bürger-Journal" (1791-1792), welches ein Sammelsurium an (vor allem moralisch-aufklärerischen) Beiträgen enthielt. Einige Jahre später erschienen u.a. das dreibändige Werk Kleine Chronick für Schweizer" (1795-1804) sowie die Wochenzeitschrift Eidgenössische Nachrichten"(1798-1799), mit deren Herausgabe Heinzmann von der Berner Regierung beauftragt wurde und welches die Leserschaft zu Staatstreue und Vaterlandsliebe anhalten sollte. Seine Parteilichkeit zur französischen Armee (die im März 1798 in die Stadt Bern einrückten) brachten ihn in Schwierigkeiten, so dass seinen Wohnort zeitweise verlassen musste und erst einige Monate später zurückkehrte. Nach einem Aufenthalt in Paris folgte ein Buch, in welchem er die Erschütterung seines Glaubens an die französische Revolution zum Ausdruck brachte (Meine Frühstunden in Paris").
