I am pleased to be able to offer a very good copy of this vintage surveying book, something that currently can t be found online (all 3 copies found only fair!). This small hard cover book (5 ½ x 8 inches, 374 pages + 2 appendices- A- The Solar Compass & B- The Sextant plus a 161-page Table of Logarithms of Numbers) was published by the American Book Company, marked 1883 for the copyright held by A.S. Barnes. It is bound in full sheep leather with a red & gilt title label on the spine. The Preface notes that this book was originally designed and published as a text book for the cadets of the U.S. Military Academy, in 1830. It was revised by Professor Amringe of Columbia College in New York in 1883. Condition: This book is in very good condition. The leather boards are slightly bumped at the corners and spine tips and have a few tiny insect borer holes. There is a tiny bit (1/4 inch) at the top of the front gutter but the rest, front and back are complete. Inside, the book is unmarked and the pages and illustrations are clean and bright throughout, without toning or foxing. Both hinges are intact and the binding is tight and sound.
