Alphonse Marie Louis de Prat de Lamartine (1790-1869) was a French writer, poet, and politician, member of the Académie française. His "Voyage en Orient" was first published in 1835. John Lloyd Stephens (1805-1852), "the American Traveler", was an attorney, explorer, and writer. Howard Malcom (1799-1879), clergyman and missionary, is still regarded today as an important leader of the Baptist Church.
