This sepia stipple engraving from the paining was engraved a year before Reynold's death, this example is tinted only, as issued, some copies have colouring. printed on hand-made wove cartidge paper, good strong plate lines, the borders are waterstained and very grubby, if presente…d under glass and all the border was hidden the image would be fine, the paper is sound but soft, bottom corner missing. The print would clean. Measures 11.25 x 8.2 inches to plate line and 14.5 x 11.5 inches in total. (25 x 29 cm) Sold as genuine 1st impression of 1791, but with issues to borders and image dusty. NOTE*The famous comic actress Frances Abington (1737-1815) in character as Roxalana, an English slave in Isaac Bickstaffe's play 'The Sultan". Mrs Abington was rumoured to have spent her teenage years working as a prostitute. The profession was rife with promiscuity at the time, which is why the song "Never let your daughter go on the stage" was sung merrily for years. I place prostitution 3 notch's above stupidity any day. J. Reynolds. (illustratore).
