They were figures whose greatness everybody recognized, who by personality, character, and achievement became institutions. If, in the year 1900, men wanted the outstanding representative of Nonconformity, one whose status, culture, and ability were everywhere acknowledged and respected, they turned naturally to Horton of Hampstead.' Interestingly, there are two Erratum slips present, one bound in at the Contents page, and another at p.201. ***Very good in dark blue cloth-covered boards with gilt tit…les and borders to the spine and decorative blind borders to the front and rear boards. The gilt has dulled with age. The boards are largely clean and unmarked, but the spine has browned somewhat with age and handling. The head and tail of the spine are slightly frayed. Corners fairly sharp, with just slight bumps to the rear board corners. Offsetting to front and rear free endpapers and pastedowns. Hardly any foxing. Interior pages clean. With a neat pencil name and date to the front free endpaper 'A C Wood Dec 1932'. Spine tight. No dustwrapper. ***200 mm x 135 mm. 458 pages, including a two-page preface by the author, plus General Works of Reference and Index to the rear. ***Contents: Chronological Table of the Chief Dates in the Evolution of Prussia, Chapter I.
