Dit boekje is een heruitgave van de in 1944 verschenen publicatie van de Vereniging tot behoud van Natuurmonumenten in Nederland: KLIMAAT- EN LANDVERDROGING door Mr. Dr. Ing. W.A.J.M. van Waterschoot van der Gracht. De auteur is oprichter van het Koninklijk Nederlands Mijnbouwkundig Genootschap dat in 2012 zijn honderdjarig bestaan viert - een memorabel gebeuren dat de aanleiding vormde voor deze heruitgave. Maar dit boekje is meer dan alleen een jubileumgeschenk. Voorzien van een inleiding van Salomon Kronenberg vertelt het een verhaal dat ook nu nog de moeite waard is. De geschiedenis van de dust bowl in het Amerika van de vorige eeuw blijft van belang, zeker in het licht van de huidige discussie over klimaatverandering, en zeker als deze geschiedenis wordt verteld door de visionair die Van Waterschoot van der Gracht was.; Gaaf, met schoon en fris binnenwerk.
