Mucho se discute acerca del valor de la escuela secundaria, la calidad de los aprendizajes que origina, y la experiencia social y subjetiva que significa para los jóvenes. ¿Se reproducen y refuerzan las desigualdades, o se generan saberes y recursos Hoy se sabe que el título secundario no se asocia necesariamente con empleo de calidad, y que la educación superior permite acceder a más y mejores empleos. Sin embargo, las relaciones entre títulos, certificados y saberes distan de ser lineales.Este libro muestra por ejemplo, que algunos egresados del secundario logran mejores empleos que otros, más allá de sus sectores sociales de origen. Varios factores confluyen para relativizar el peso de esos condicionamientos. Los mundos del trabajo en los que incursionan los jóvenes configuran condiciones, y ponen en juego saberes diversos, según sectores económicos y contextos locales. La modalidad que estudiaron (común, técnica, o de Jóvenes y Adultos), y la complementación con formación profesional post-escolar inciden sobre esas experiencias laborales. Incluso, en algunos casos, el acceso al empleo está mediado no sólo por el capital social familiar sino también por la trama de relaciones en la que participa la institución formadora. Por su parte, otras experiencias de aprendizaje (por ejemplo, las ligadas a los programas de empleo) pueden suscitar experiencias subjetivas con fuerte impronta sobre los jóvenes, pero el desaliento aparece cuando se ven confrontados a un mercado laboral con altos niveles de precariedad y bajos salarios. 10.
