Taschenbuch. Condizione: Neu. Neuware - In 'On the History and Mystery of Those Called the Sacrements', Jacob Post provides a groundbreaking interpretation of the sacraments in the Christian tradition. Post argues that the sacraments are rooted in Jewish institutions, and that their true meanings have been obscured over time. He approaches the sacraments from a historical and theological perspective, drawing on a wide range of sources to support his claims. A must-read for anyone interested in the history of Christian practices and beliefs. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.This work is in the 'public domain in the United States of America, and possibly other nations. Aggiungi al carrelloHardcover. Condizione: Very Good. Condizione sovraccoperta: Very Good. 1st Edition. First Edition (NAP). Signed and Inscribed by the psychologist Jacob S. List to the late actor and musician Theodore Bikel. I purchased this book along with a number of others from the library of Mr. Bikel's ex-wife. His bookplate can be found on the front inside cover. The inscription is on the first front end paper and reads as follows: 'June 3/60, To Theodore Bikel, in memory of a wonderful evening with us, Jacob S. List.' Once listed, this will be the Only Copy copy of this book signed by Dr. List. 'Theodore Bikel studied acting at Britain's Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and made his London stage debut in1948. He was also a widely recognized and recorded folk singer and guitarist. In 1959, he co-founded the Newport Folk Festival and created the role of Captain von Trapp opposite Mary Martin in the original Broadway production of The Sound of Music. In 1969, Bikel began acting and singing on stage as Tevye in the musical Fiddler on the Roof, a role he performed more often than any other actor to date. He appeared in films including The African Queen, Moulin Rouge), , I Want to Live!, My Fair Lady, and The Russians Are Coming, the Russians Are Coming. For his portrayal of Sheriff Max Muller in The Defiant Ones, he was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. Bikel was president of the Associated Actors and Artists of America until 2014, and was president of Actors' Equity in the late 1970s and early 1980s. For most of his acting career, he became known for his versatility in playing characters of different nationalities, claiming he took on those different personalities so his acting would "never get stale." On television, he played an Armenian merchant on Ironside, a Polish professor on Charlie's Angels, an American professor on The Paper Chase, a Bulgarian villain on Falcon Crest, a Russian on Star Trek: The Next Generation, and an Italian on Murder, She Wrote. You can see the black covers of the book itself in the photos. They are very clean. The gilt lettering on the spine is very bright. The six edges are in very good condition. The four corners each have a speck-sized spot of rubbing. There is a very small cloth tear on the rear side of the spine (see 5th photo). This book is square and straight, and very solidly bound from beginning to end. The pages in the book are in excellent condition. I didn't see any creasing or dogeared corners. They are also very clean. There is, however, foxing/spotting on both the front and rear inside covers and first and last end papers, which includes the signed page (see 2nd photo). There is also this same foxing/spotting on the verso of the glossy frontispiece (a photograph of Jacob S. List) and on the white margins of the frontispiece, and, in reaction, on the margins of the title page facing the frontispiece. And that's it. There is no other foxing/spotting to be found on any other page in the book, none at all in the text. And I didn't see any soiling at all. There are also no markings in the book. The only attachment is Mr. Bikel's bookplate. And with the exception of the signed inscription, no one has written their name or anything else anywhere in this book. You can see the dust jacket in the photos. It's in very decent condition. It has one tear (5/8ths of an inch) off the bottom edge of the front. There are a few tiny scuffs. And there is some foxing/spotting on the white flaps of the jacket. The jacket is NOT price-clipped, not clipped at all. I've had it in a fitted protective cover for as long as I've owned the book. This book appears to propound a somewhat unorthodox approach to psychotherapy. All of the writers were previous patients of Dr. List. They then went on to complete their studies and become therapists themselves. Inscribed by Author(s). …

Paperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This accessible work investigates the origins, history, and doctrine of baptism. The author examines its evolution from an ancient Jewish practice to its use in the Christian church. By delving into scripture and theological texts, the book reveals key distinctions between Christ's baptism and water baptism. It argues that while water baptism was permitted by Christ as a temporary measure, Christ's baptism is the baptism of the Holy Spirit, which purifies the heart and is the only true baptism. This comprehensive and thought-provoking book offers a valuable perspective on the subject of baptism, shedding light on its historical and theological foundations. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.…

Paperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book explores the historical and scriptural origins of two common Christian rituals: water baptism and the Eucharist supper. The author argues that these practices were Jewish traditions adopted by early Christian apostles and are not ordinances of Christ. Drawing on historical and scriptural evidence, the author seeks to demonstrate that the true baptism and supper are inward and spiritual, not outward and visible. By examining the evolution of these rituals, the book challenges their necessity and validity as Christian practices. Ultimately, the author concludes that a true Christian experience is characterized by an inward spiritual transformation and a personal relationship with Christ, rather than by adherence to particular rituals or ceremonies. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.…
