Aggiungi al carrelloNo Binding. Condizione: Very Good. No Jacket. Gerrit van Giesen (illustratore). 1st Edition. Original hand-coloured copper engraving titled 'T Leproos-Huis, published in 1730 in Delft by Reinier Boitet, from "Beschrijving van 's Gravenhage" by Jacob Riemer (1676-1762). This large and finely engraved 18th-century view depicts the Leper House of The Hague, originally founded in the Middle Ages to accommodate sufferers of leprosy. As the disease was believed to be highly contagious, the institution was situated outside the city walls, along the area then known as the Bocht van Guinea (present-day Huygenspark). The engraving provides a detailed and lively representation of the complex, including the formal gardens, surrounding walls, figures in contemporary dress, horse-drawn carriages, and boats along the canal in the foreground, with the skyline of The Hague visible in the distance. By the mid-16th century, leprosy had disappeared from the region and the building subsequently served as a residence for "proveniers", elderly citizens who had paid a substantial sum to secure care for the remainder of their lives. The building was ultimately demolished in 1826 to make way for the white pavilion that still stands at Rijswijkseplein. The plate was engraved by Gerrit van Giesen (1692-1750) and forms part of one of the most important early 18th-century publications on The Hague, containing numerous detailed views of the city's principal buildings, churches, monasteries, estates, and castles. Image size approximately 28 x 34 cm; sheet size approximately 32 x 36 cm. Original central fold as issued. In excellent condition with attractive original hand colouring.

Aggiungi al carrelloNo Binding. Condizione: Fine. No Jacket. Gerrit van Giesen (illustratore). 1st Edition. An original hand-colored copper engraving depicting the City Hall (Stadhuis) of The Hague, published in 1730. The print originates from the first edition of Beschrijving van 's Gravenhage, written by Mr. Jacob de Riemer (1676-1762) and published in Delft by Reinier Boitet in 1730. De Riemer's work is considered an important early eighteenth-century topographical account of The Hague, documenting the city's architecture, institutions, and civic development during that period. This engraving forms part of that historically significant publication and represents one of the early printed visual records of The Hague's City Hall. Executed as a fine copper engraving and enhanced with contemporary hand-coloring, the print combines historical documentary value with strong decorative appeal. The coloring remains vibrant and well-preserved, adding to its aesthetic and collectable qualities. The sheet measures approximately 28 x 35 cm and retains the original center fold as issued, confirming its origin from the bound volume rather than being a later restrike or reproduction. The presence of the fold is typical for engravings from this work and should be regarded as an authentic publication feature rather than a defect. The condition is very good for its age, with the paper remaining clean and structurally sound. As an authentic print from the 1730 first edition, this engraving represents a genuine eighteenth-century impression and an attractive example of early Dutch urban imagery. It will appeal to collectors of Dutch topography, early architectural views, hand-colored engravings, and historical prints relating to The Hague.

Aggiungi al carrello2 parts in 3 volumes. First and only edition of an extensive, thorough and lavishly illustrated work on the history and topography of the city of The Hague. The beautiful frontispiece is explained in an allegorical poem by Hendrik Schim on the verso of the half-title. More laudatory poems on The Hague and the author Jacob de Riemer (1676-1762) follow in the preliminaries of the first part by Caspar Barlaeus, Joannes Van Dam, Constantijn Huygens and Hendrik Schim. The main text starts with the foundation of the city, followed by descriptions of different buildings, including several churches and monasteries, the orphanage, schools and much more, most of them are shown in the engraved folding plates as well. The second part (volume 3) of 1739 contains the description of the government of The Hague and its organization.Binding worn, corners bumped and lacking the paper on the front side of volume three, but the bindings are structually sound.
