De activiteiten van een bevlogen toneelleider in de provincie', in: Een theatergeschiedenis der Nederlanden (Amsterdam 1996); Te Winkel IV, p.498; NNBW IV, 1188 'De geschaakte bruid' is een vrije bewerking van 'Les carosses d'Orléans' uit 1680. Van Rijndorp schreef het stuk waarschijnlijk tijdens zijn tournee van 1687 door de Zuidelijke Nederlanden; het speelt ook in de omgeving van Brussel. Jacob van Rijndorp (Den Haag 1663 - Den Haag 1720) beheerste alle onderdelen van het toneelbedrijf. Aanvankelijk trok hij met een grote toneeltroep door de Nederlanden, Duitsland en Denemarken. Later exploiteerde en bespeelde hij de schouwburgen van Den Haag en Leiden. Voorts vertaalde en schreef hij toneelstukken en kluchten, maar bovenal was hij acteur. Daphne Meijer: Van Rijndorp speelde in de loop van zijn carrière alle glansrollen van zijn tijd, het zogenaamde eerste emplooi. 'De geschaakte bruid' werd in 1690 voor het eerst gedrukt (en ook vertoond) en in 1715 herdrukt, beide keren met de naam van Rijndorp op de titelpagina. Voor de hier aangeboden derde druk (niet de tweede dus, zoals de titelpagina vermeldt) is het stuk door Ysbrand Vincent, lid van het Amsterdamse dichtgenootschap 'Nil Volentibus Arduum' en tevens regent van de schouwburg, op een aantal plaatsen gewijzigd en vervolgens ingelijfd bij de werken van het genootschap. Volgens Vincents voorwoord zou Jacob van Rijndorp (daar Van Rendorp genoemd) hebben gevraagd het stuk voor de opvoering te overzien en te beschaaven. Van Rijndorp ontkende dat echter later in alle toonaarden: hij had het niet aan NVA gegeven ter beschaving, maar aan de Amsterdamse schouwburg afgestaan ter opvoering en op voorwaarde dat men het zoude laaten als hy het hadde gemaakt en zynen naam daarvoor zou doen zetten.
