Ingenaaid met grijs papieren omslag met houtsnede van Frans Nackaerts. 8vo. - Schutbladen gebruind; wat kleine vochtvlekjes ('roest').Zeldzame dichtbundel van Jan Willem Jacobs. Het gaat hier om een exemplaar zonder de vier houtsneden e…n met 10 ontbrekende bladzijden met gedichten (deze bladen zijn blanco aanwezig). De bladzijden zitten niet allemaal op de juiste volgorde. De expressionistische houtsnede van de Belgische kunstenaar Frans Nackaerst (1884-1948) op de omslag is identiek aan de houtsnede op de omslag van de 'latere' uitgave van W.L. & J. Brusse, Rotterdam, 1922. De imprint van W.L. & J. Brusse staat op deze omslag niet vermeld. Van uitgeverij Brusse is bekend dat zij destijds 202 exemplaren hebben overgenomen van de Bentveldse uitgever (Cat. Brusse 465). Deze exemplaren hebben ze van een eigen omslag voorzien. Vermoedelijk gaat het bij ons exemplaar om een soort van dummy van de oorspronkelijke eerste uitgave, gedrukt op zwaar handgeschept en onafgesneden papier. Op de titelblad is over de imprint het uitgeverszegel geplakt van Uitgeverij De Fakkel, Rijnstraat 48 te Amsterdam. - Toen Frans Nackaerts tijdens de Eerste Wereldoorlog België ontvluchtte en in Nederland verbleef (tot 1922) ontmoette hij in Amsterdam de Nederlandse socialistische dichter en schrijver Jan Willem Jacobs (Bentheim, Duitsland, 1895 - Laren, Noord-Holland, 1967). Frans Nackaerts kreeg veel waardering voor de houtsneden die hij maakte deze dichtbundel maakte.
