Der hier erwähnte Lorenz Oken [1779-1851] war Arzt sowie Schüler Schellings und ein Anhänger dessen Naturphilosophie. Oken befasste sich auch mit der Rolle des Nabelbläschens im Embryo und sah darin die Anlage des Darms. Wegen seines Eintreten für die Pressefreiheit geriet er in München in Schwierigkeiten. Jacobson (1783-1843) *vertiefte sich früh in comparativ-anatomische Studien und entdeckte schon 1809 das Jacobson'sche Organ in der Nasenhöhle der Säugethiere, eine Entdeckung, die bald durch Cuvier allgemein bekannt und anerkannt wurde. Unter seinen embryologischen Untersuchungen verdienen die. über die Wolff'schen (Oken'schen) Körper und über das Primordialcranium hervorgehoben zu werden.* (Hirsch/H. III, S. 396).
