Figures gravées sur bois dans le texte. Sans la planche finale qui illustre la pratique et l'usage du gnomon, qui manque souvent. Édition originale, de toute rareté, du principal traité du XVIIe s. touchant aux astrolabes, publié par Jean Moreau, libraire et fabricant d'astrolabes en papier et carton, qui passe pour en être l'auteur* ; l'ouvrage a été édité pour accompagner les instruments gravés et vendus chez lui, rue Saint Jacques, "à la croix blanche". Il comprend la réédition de l'Usage de l'astrolabe de Dominique Jacquinot, qui avait été imprimé pour la première fois en 1545, avant d'être rééditée en 1559 dans une version revue par Jacques Bassentin (James Basendyne) ; Moreau juge cette édition, qui est publiée à plusieurs reprises jusqu'en 1619, "souillé[e] & terny[e] de nouvelles fautes" (préface "Au lecteur", p. [8]) et il se fait donc un devoir de rendre de nouveau au public l'ouvrage original de Jacquinot. Pages 58-65 sont décrits et représentés les "petits astrolabes" qu'il commercialise. L'adresse du fabricant-éditeur apparait sur la face de la figure p. 60 (également reproduite p. 36 et p. 257) : "Chez Jean Moreau, rue St Jacques". La fig. p. 63 représente la planche planisphérique universelle ajoutée par Moreau. La description de l'instrument s'achève sur la manière d'assembler les différentes parties au moyen d'un clou à vis représenté p. 67. Moreau a sans doute établi cet astrolabe à partir des planches de celui de Danfrie, qu'il affirme détenir ("Au lecteur", p. [6]) et qu'il réédite depuis 1622 (voir l'exemplaire conservé au Adler Planetarium, inv. W-98a) ; il y a ici ajouté les corrections qui lui permettent de concorder avec l'année 1625. Bon exemplaire, de belle provenance, comportant l'ex-libris gravé sur bois du libraire Alain Brieux, spécialiste des ouvrages et instruments scientifiques anciens, en particulier des astrolabes. Une annotation ancienne en pied d'un feuillet. Lalande p. 188. *L'acronyme D.A.L.G. qui figure sur la page de titre étant associé au savant Claude Mydorge (1585-1647), ce dernier est parfois désigné comme étant l'auteur du traité.
