September 1657, 62 Jahre alt, zu Eßlingen. Er war ein geschätzter Schriftsteller, dessen Werke viel benutzt wurden und daher mehrfache Auflagen erlebten. . Knipschild's bedeutendstes Werk ist der 'Tractatus politico-historico-juridicus de juribus et privilegiis civitatum imperialium', Ulm I. ed. 1657; II. ed. 1687; III. ed. Arg. 1740 cum notis J. J. Schmauss. fol. - Dieser Tractatus gilt als die beste und eingehendste Arbeit, welche über die Reichsstädte als drittes Collegium der Reichsstände sowie über ihr Rechtsverhältniß zum Reich geliefert wurde. Das . Buch ist in 6 Bücher getheilt, von welchen das zweite von den deutschen Reichsstädten überhaupt, das dritte von den einzelnen Reichsstädten 63 an der Zahl in alphabetischer Ordnung handelt. Ein prunkender Ausputz mit ermüdender Gelehrsamkeit und übel angebrachten römischen Rechtssätzen muß dem Geschmacke jener Zeit zu gute gehalten werden.'
