Hardcover. Condizione: Fine. Condizione sovraccoperta: Fine. 1st Edition. First edition, first printing. Fine in a fine dust jacket. No remainder mark! "A new novel from the author of the Studs Lonigan trilogy. Like author James T. Farrell, Mickey Donovan - the main character in Dreaming Baseball - grew up on the South Side of Chicago dreaming of becoming a star for the White Sox. Donovan's childhood dream came true in 1919 when he made the team. Despite the fact that he spent most of his rookie season on the bench, it was truly a magical year - until the Black Sox scandal turned it into a nightmare. James T. Farrell dreamed of one day playing second base for his hometown Chicago White Sox, but, failing that, he became one of America's great novelists. Farrell loved the game of baseball with the same passion he brought to the celebrated Studs Lonigan trilogy. In the 1950s Farrell signed an agreement with A. S. Barnes to write two baseball books. The first book published from this deal was My Baseball Diary, in 1957, still considered one of the very best fan books on baseball. The second baseball book was to be a novel about the infamous 1919 Black Sox scandal. Though several draft s of the novel were written, it remained unpublished - until now. Editors Ron Briley, Margaret Davidson, and James Barbour worked with the various manuscript drafts to see Farrell's vision to print as Dreaming Baseball.Farrell's Donovan speaks, feels, and dreams for all baseball fans in this wonderfully rich novel about our favorite American pastime."--publisher's blurb. "The heart of Farrell's baseball novel is the story of a young boy who dreams of playing one day for his hometown team and lives that dream, only to see it ruined by the social realities and personal failure that often shadow the dreamer. For Farrell, baseball is where youthful dreams begin, but it's also a test of character when the dream-come-true becomes a nightmare. In Dreaming Baseball, we learn if a love of baseball is strong enough to survive the game's darkest betrayal."--from the Foreword by Eliot Asinof, author of Eight Men Out.

Text by James Elliot Singer. Foreword by David F. Friedman. Text in English, French & Italian. Heavily Illustrated. (illustratore). Very Good (covers nice; contents clean & tight). Quarto: pictorial red wraps; 160 pages First Edition. First in a series. Signed by David F. Friedman on page 48 during a Cinema Wasteland convention before he died in 2011. The book features Russ Myer (King of the Nudies); David F. Friedman (Sultan of Sleaze); Herschel G. Lewis (Godfather of Gore); Harry H. Novak (Wizard of the Box Office); Doris Wishman (Grand Dame of Gimmick); Robert Lee Frost (Duke of Sadism); A.C. Stephen (Prince of Confidential) and their lusty and buxomy stars: Lorna Maitland, Erica Gavin, Tura Satana, Babettte Bardot, Pat Barrington, Marsha Jordan, Uschi Digart, Rene Bond, Sgaron Kelly, Dyanne Thorne, Chesty Morgan, Kitten Natividad and many more! Friedman wrote the Foreword to this book and has a chapter dedicated to him. Friedman [1923-2011] was a regional marketing man for Paramount Pictures and sensed the money in independent distributing. He started his own company in the 1950s, which mainly produced so-called nudie-cutie films that came close to the legal limits for pornography at the time. This trend was followed by the sexploitation and ?roughie? genres, depicting simulated sex with a more violent edge, often horror- or crime-related. Friedman went on to produce in the 1963 film "'Blood Feast," an American exploitation film often considered the first "gore" or "splatter" film. Books signed by Friedman are uncommon. This copy is the first edition in a series of different ?Bizarre Sinema? books published between 1995 (this edition) and 2009. Signed.
