After Robertson died in 1911, Johnstone soldiered on as sole editor, and the Third Spalding Club (formed June 1928) committed itself to publication; but Johnstone, who died in September 1928, never saw the books through the press. John Alexander Fairley (1862-1949), bibliographer, worked in the Scottish prison service; the National Library of Scotland holds letters to him about Johnstone, from Alexander Carlyle and David Hay Fleming, 1924-9.…
