Soft cover. Condizione: Near Fine. 1st Edition. "Rainmaker" is a collection of poems by Swedish poet Jan Östergren as translated by John Mathias and Göran Printz-Pahlson. It was published in 1983 by Ohio University Press. This is the First Printing of the paperback format. On the rear cover of the book it states: "A kind of simplicity or plainness runs through these poems, but it is deceptive; the language is even-toned in a way that melds the abstract and the concrete, the ordinarily expected, even accepted, and the practically startling. The lyric effect is sustained and heightened by the careful handling of the line endings, of breath pauses which are also stages in the flow of thought, producing unexpected shifts." "Jan Östegren ,was born in Lund in 1940. he has published several books of poetry, and has translated the work of Jerome Rothenberg and Marcel Duchamp, and in collaboration with Göran Printz-Pahlson, has co-translated a number of English, Irish , and American poets including Seamus Heaney and Robert Lowell."
