Assessmentsysteme sind Instrumente, welche der qualitativen und quantitativen Erfassung des medizinischen Schadens und seiner aktuellen Folgen sowie funktioneller und psychosozialer Einschränkungen dienen. Das Gütekriterium der Validität bestimmt, ob ein Assessment diese Einschränkungen auch tatsächlich misst. Zudem müssen Assessmentsysteme reliabel und für Veränderungen empfindlich sein, um den Therapieeffekt messen zu können. Die klinische Relevanz der Assessments zeigt, ob diese die erklärten Behandlungsziele der Rehabilitation erfassen, nämlich die Wiedererlangung der bestmöglichen Funktionsfähigkeit und eines angemessenen Platzes in der Gesellschaft. Dieses Buch beschreibt rund 70 Assessments der muskuloskelettalen Rehabilitation und beurteilt sie aufgrund ihrer wissenschaftlichen Qualitäten.
