Paperback. Condizione: Near Fine. 1st. 364 pages, illustrations; 30 cm. Published on the occasion of the exhibition held May 17 to August 19, 1984. Near fine. Firm binding, clean inside copy. Age toning. OVERSIZE! Additional shipping charges may be requested for international & priority orders. *** Controversial MoMA survey introducing many visitors to Neo-Expressionism from Germany (Baselitz, Dahn, Dokoupil, Fetting, Hodicke, Immendorff, Kiefer, Lupertz, Middendorf, Penck, Polke), the Italian Transavanguardia (Chia, Clemente, Cucchi, Paladino), and parallel developments in the United States (Basquiat, Borofsky, Fischl, Schnabel). It was criticized in radical quarters for marginalizing Minimalism, Conceptual art, performance, video, and other avant-garde forms; women artists picketed the museum because of their low representation. Mostly, though, it is remembered as a watershed event in the art scene of the Reagan Years, when Neo-Expressionism was given the imprimatur of the Museum of Modern Art, an institution that had never been friendly to Expressionism, German or otherwise, under the leadership of Alfred Barr. Size: 4to. Collectible.

Prima edizione Copia autografata
22 x 17 in. custom aluminum box, with 22 silkscreen, laser-cut, and digital prints. The A.I.R. Fiftieth Anniversary Print Portfolio is the result of a collaboration between A.I.R. Gallery, the longest-running collective of women and non-binary artists in the United States, and The LeRoy Neiman Center for Print Studies at Columbia University. Twenty-two A.I.R. members produced an original print with Neiman Center Master Printer Nathan Catlin using various combinations of digital, silkscreen, and laser cut printmaking techniques. Participants include Tomoko Amaki Abe, Susan Bee, Liz Surbeck Biddle, Daria Dorosh, Yvette Drury Dubinsky, Maxine Henryson, Bonam Kim, Rosina Lardieri, Carolyn Martin, Aphrodite Navab, Sylvia Netzer, Ann Pachner, Ada Potter, Aya Rodriguez-Izumi, Ann Schaumburger, Kathleen Schneider, Yvonne Shortt, Joan Snitzer, Susan Stainman, Erica Stoller, Nancy Storrow, and Jane Swavely. Many of the pieces have hand-finished details. The project was directed by Neiman Center Artistic Director Tomas Vu-Daniel, Master Printer Nathan Catlin, and A.I.R. members Yvette Drury Dubinsky and Joan Snitzer. This print portfolio is the second in the gallery's history, and features an introductory essay by Lucy R. Lippard, continuing a tradition begun in 1976. This is from an edition of 20 copies, with prints numbered and signed by the artists. Pictured are selections from the portfolio; photographs are courtesy A.I.R. Gallery. As new.
