Tight, un-read, as new copy in like dust jacket that shows a 1/32 inch chip at head of spine, and very slight wear at corners. Jacket is otherwise pristine and now protected in a clear mylar sleeve. A signed sheet of paper reading "Best wishes / Osa Johnson" has been laid in with this book, though was not acquired or originally distributed with this book. The signature sheet is also in fine condition. Ironically, both the book and the signed sheet of paper come from the estate of Osa's second husband Clarke Getts, though through completely different channels. Signed by Author(s).

Illustrated in both color and in black and white, with photographs of the real Pantaloon on the inner dustjacket flap. Pictorial laminated boards with gray cloth spine, illustrated endpapers, 56 pages, illustrated dustjacket. The book has some edgewear and a couple of sharp bumps to the rear cover, one at the lower corner and one at the upper edge. Good hinges, sound text block, clean pages with occasional light finger soil, small 1941 gift inscription on front pastedown, no other markings. The mylar protected dustjacket is not priceclipped and has quite a bit of edgewear, mainly tiny chips and tears, with a longer tear along the front spine edge with just a little paper loss, mainly at the spine head. Nice copy overall. First Edition. Hard Cover. Good/Good. 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall.

The affectionately told story of ''Snowball,'' a baby gorilla, and his life with Osa & Martin Johnson, who had found him neglected in the jungles of the Belgian Congo and adopted him. The Johnsons were a husband-and-wife team of adventurers and pioneering documentary film-makers, well known for their work in Africa and Borneo. The book describes Snowball's origins, Osa & Martin's early encounters with him, his personality, manners, and many mischiefs, what they did together and how they lived together as a family. The story progresses as it follows them as they take Snowball to America aboard a steamer, eventually moving him to the Central Park Zoo, and describing way he was cared for and who his friends were there. Illustrated by Arthur August Jansson, who accompanied Carl Akeley on his expedition to Africa in 1926 and who also worked with him on the African dioramas at the American Museum of Natural History.
