Paperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book narrates the events of the December 1862 Union-led raid on Holly Springs, Mississippi. In the midst of the American Civil War, General Ulysses S. Grant directed this expedition by the Union Army with the intention of destroying Confederate supplies prior to the Battle of Vic…ksburg, which began the following May and lead to a decisive Union victory and the splitting of the Confederacy. The majority of the troops involved in the Holly Springs raid were Black regiments, a relatively new development in the conflict that reflected the changing attitudes toward the role of African Americans in both the war and American society at large. While the raid was ultimately unsuccessful in its primary objective, the successful participation of Black troops hinted at the potential for their full integration into the Union war effort. The author provides a detailed account of this lesser-known engagement, situating it within the context of the broader conflict and highlighting its importance in the evolution of the role of African Americans in both the Civil War and American society. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.

Paperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book expounds on eloquence, its nature, and principles, proposing that eloquence is most sublime when it is an expression of strong emotion. The author contends that true eloquence must come from within the speaker and the moment, arising from a deep and genuine passion. They arg…ue that eloquence is an art akin to poetry, sharing the characteristic of expressing exalted emotions, and that the greatest orations possess the qualities of a grand poem, exhibiting fervent enthusiasm, vivid imagery, and harmonious diction. The author emphasizes that while the forms may differ, eloquence and poetry are closely related, and a great orator, in the highest sense, is also a poet. The book explores the thematic depth and ideas presented in various orations, demonstrating how eloquence can command attention, sway opinions, and inspire action. This book provides valuable insights into the power of eloquence, its principles, and its profound impact on history and human affairs. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. Paperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book critically examines the Pentateuch (the first five books of the Hebrew Bible), using advanced textual analysis to shed light on its authorship, historical accuracy, and theological significance. The author, a prominent religious scholar, challenges traditional interpretation…s of the text, arguing that it is a composite work incorporating multiple sources and perspectives. Through meticulous examination of inconsistencies, anachronisms, and variant traditions, the book uncovers the complex literary and historical development of the Pentateuch. The author's analysis also explores the book's theological implications, questioning the notion of divine authorship and the infallibility of the biblical text. Ultimately, this study provides a fresh and thought-provoking understanding of the Pentateuch, inviting readers to engage critically with the foundational text of Judaism and Christianity, and to reconsider the nature of religious authority and the relationship between faith and history. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
