Se utilizó el enfoque de sistemas mediante el uso de indicadores de sustentabilidad, dentro del marco para la evaluación de sistemas de manejo de recursos naturales (MESMIS); el cual brinda un esquema metodológico para evaluar la sustentabilidad relacionando tres áreas de evaluación: ambiental, social y económica. Se desarrollaron y midieron 16 indicadores, que fueron integrados y analizados desde las tres dimensiones y los atributos generales de los sistemas que definen la sustentabilidad. A su vez se generó un índice global de la misma el cual se proyecta monitorear longitudinalmente. El presente trabajo no pretende hacer un juicio de valor sobre los SIEBI, sino proponer técnicas y herramientas que permitan evaluar y monitorear la sustentabilidad a través de los años y comprender como su dinámica afecta a la misma.
