[Device] . 22, rue de Choiseul" The photographer Augustin Aimé Joseph le jeune (French, active Paris, France 1860s - 1870s). Count Sergei Lvovich Levitsky (1819 1898), is considered one of the patriarchs of Russian photography and one of Europe's most important early photographic pioneers, inventors and innovators. In Paris in the 1840s that Sergei Levitsky would study photography and distinguish himself in the technical sphere of photographic development. Daguerre had heard about the talented Russian photographer and received him cordially and with great interest. Between 1859 and 1864, Levitsky operated a studio at 22 rue de Choiseul in Paris, formerly the address of American daguerreotypist Warren Thompson. In 1864 Levitsky sold his studio in Paris to Augustin Aimé Joseph Le Jeune, whose cartes-de-visite carried the Levitsky name and noted that he was the new owner/successor i.e. 'Lejeune succr' until at least 1867. These cards are therefore post 1867, likely early 1870s. Emily Astor Kane (1854-1932) was born in New York City; her father was Oliver Delancey Kane, Jr. and her mother was Louisa Dorothea Langdon. She was the great grand-daughter of John Jacob Astor, and was known as "The Black Pearl" for her sultry good-looks. In 1876 she married Augustus Jay (1815-1919) with whom she had two sons DeLancey Kane Jay (1881-1941) and Peter Augustus Jay (1877-1933). They resided part of the year in Manhattan and part in Newport, Rhode Island. She died in 1932 on Long Island and was buried in Rye, Westchester, New York.
