Carroll A Wilson (1887-1947) was a prominent attorney and business executive, who also become recognized as a bibliographer, author and book collector This set, published by his wife shortly after his death, collects much of his scholarship on 13 British and American authors of the 19th ce…ntury, as well as a compedium of quotations he collected over the years It has become a valuable resource for 19th century literary research This set is in dark blue cloth with gilt titles on the spines Moderate water staining at the top of the front cover of Vol II, but otherwise only the slightest bumping at spine ends The set is No 165 of an edition limited to 375 copies Both volumes have the personal bookplate of the noted collector Frederic R Kirkland on the front pastedown And affixed to the rear pastedown of Vol I, is Kirkland's 1957 purchase receipt from Maurice Inman Inc Rare Books for the set (for $50! Not much inflation evidence here!) There are occasional pencil annotations in the text, presumably Kirkland's, throughout both volumes, and the rear endpapers of Vol II are nearly filled with pencilled notes Laid inside the front cover are a copy of the memorial pamphlet Carroll Atwood Wilson 1887-1947, published in 1948 by the American Bibilographical Society Also laid inside Vol I are extracted pages of Wilson's obituary from the Antiquarian Bookman of April 14, 1951 Frederic R Kirkland (1887-1961) was a noted amateur historian and collector His extensive library was auctioned by Parke-Bernet Galleries on 13-14 March 1962 1-449, 450-889 pp.
