Moderate rubbing and edge wear to the jacket, which has heavy rubbing at the headcap of the spine. The book is sound and clean. Lengthy SIGNED INSCRIPTION from photographer Earl Palmer on the front flyleaf. Additionally there is an inscription on the half title noting that the owner received the book through Dale Belcher, whose great-grandfather appears on the front cover. Earl Palmer's inscription to the owner reads, "Dear Pat! / Thank you for your purchase of this book picturing my wanderings in our Southern Appalachians to take pictures and write about mountain people who lived and had a happy, self sufficient way of live in an age long past. The hope is here reposed (?) that you like this book. If, as you view the pictures, and read their captions, you gain an insight into the customs and ways of how mountain people lived when a dollar was all a man could get for a day's plowing, mule included, if too some of the cares and regenerations of a too busy main street world are lessened as you walk the paths of this transient life, then this work will have fulfilled its mission. Maybe this is asking overmuch for this book to accomplish. But if these things become a reality then I'll be happy and the commonplace glorified. / Sincerely, Earl Palmer / Sept. 30, 1990".
