Komponisten konnten ihre klanglichen Intentionen vor allem durch die Wahl der Instrumente realisieren. Erst zur Mitte des 20. Jahrhunderts wird in der seriellen Musik d…er Versuch unternommen, Klangfarbe zu einem der Tonhöhe und der Tondauer gleichberechtigten Parameter zu erheben. In der Ethnomusikologie ist man seit jeher stärker auf die Bedeutung der Klangfarbe eingegangen. Die Begrenztheit der für die Beschreibung von Klängen verfügbaren Terminologie stellte sich jedoch stets als große Hürde dar. Die Fortschritte in der (computergestützten) Frequenzanalyse haben nicht nur die begriffliche Differenzierung vorangetrieben, sondern verschiedenste Forschungsbereiche im näheren und weiteren Umfeld der Musikwissenschaft angeregt. Klangforschung ist - mehr als viele andere Bereiche der Musikwissenschaft - ein in starkem Maße interdisziplinärer Forschungsgegenstand. Der Band enthält Beiträge einer Tagung, die am 14. und 15. November 2008 zum 75. Geburtstag von Univ.-Prof. Dr. Franz Födermayr veranstaltet wurde.

( Johann Christian Kestner lernte während seiner Tätigkeit am Reichskammergericht in Wetzlar (1767?1773) die junge Charlotte Buff kennen, mit der er nach der Heirat nach Hannover ging (1773). Hier bekleidete Johann Christian Kestner die Stelle eines Vizearchivars und wurde später königlich großbritannisch-hannoverscher Hofrat. Auf die Wetzlarer Zeit geht eine enge Freundschaft der Familie Kestner mit Johann Wolfgang von Goethe zurück. Kestner und Goethe hatten sich während ihrer gemeinsamen Tätigkeit am Reichskammergericht in Wetzlar kennen gelernt. Aufgrund der als unglücklich zu bezeichnenden Liebe Goethes zu Charlotte Buff ? sie war bereits mit Johann Christian Kestner verlobt ? wurde sie zum Vorbild für das Lottchen in Goethes berühmtem Briefroman Die Leiden des jungen Werthers . Die Familie Kestner gehörte im 18. und 19.
