About the book >.>.> There were probably many hundreds of these miniature halls in Powys, but their date range is uncertain. The single-bayed halls which have been dated were built in the mid-sixteenth century, but the sample is small and there are probably earlier examples. A range of single-bayed halls has been examined throughout Wales, but in many cases the timber was found to be fast-grown (probably derived from hedgerows rather than managed woods) and unsuitable for dating. There are only five secure dates, but they are remarkably close. Two box-framed single-bay halls from Montgomeryshire produced dates of late 1550 and 1552. (SP).…
