Das liegt nicht nur an Stars, Werbung, Musik oder Ausstat-tung. Populäre Filme sollen ein möglichst großes Publikum an-sprechen. Deshalb sind ihre Geschichten auf eine ganz bestimmte Art aufgebaut. Autoren und Produzenten orientieren sich an erprobten Mustern des Erzählens. Wie sehen diese Muster im Einzelnen aus? Wie wirken sie, warum funktionieren sie? Dieses Buch beschreibt den typischen Handlungsaufbau des populären Films, untersucht, warum er so erfolgreich ist, und klärt die traditionellen Begriffe der klassischen Dramaturgie. Zu diesem Zweck werden die Erkenntnisse von Drehbuchpraxis und Filmtheorie miteinander verbunden: Aus der vergleichenden Analyse von zwölf klassischen Drehbuchratgebern (u. a. Egri, Field, Seger, Vale, Vogler) läßt sich ein umfassendes Bild der populären Dramaturgie ermitteln. Rezeptionspsychologie und kognitive Filmtheorie (u. a. die, Arbeiten von Carroll, Bordwell und Tan) ermöglichen es, die Wirkungsweise dieser Dramaturgie besser zu verstehen.
