Paperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book is the autobiography of Jimmy Glover, a stage manager, composer, and musical director. Born in 1861, Glover recounts his early life, including his experience as a choir boy and music teacher at two churches, as well as his early work as an organist at the Pro-Cathedral in Dublin. Glover's experiences on the stage and behind the scenes provide a fascinating look at the world of theater and music in the late 19th century, a time of great change and innovation. He gives vivid accounts of the great opera singers and actors of his day, including Tietjens, Ilma di Murska, and Henry Irving. He also offers valuable insights into the political and social climate of Ireland in the late 19th century. This book will appeal to theater and music lovers, and to anyone interested in a unique and engaging account of a life in the arts.
