Carolyn L. Kennedy wrote the guide with contributions from Maria L. Caban, Joan W. Fincutter, Sharon Woods Hussey, Harriet S. Mosatche and Donna L. Nye. The outdoor progression runs from neighborhood nature walks through to primitive backcountry trips, with age-appropriate activities for troop leaders, camp counselors and outdoor educators across all Girl Scout age levels. Instructional units are accompanied by black-and-white field photographs, wildlife diagrams, knot-tying illustrations and step-by-step camp setup drawings. Sections cover outdoor cookery, dishwashing sanitation, pocketknife handling, water purification, hazard avoidance and weather observation.
