Deuxième édition du lexique grec de Joannes Scapula, qui fut publié pour la première fois en 1580.Joannes Scapula, né en Allemagne dans la seconde moitié du seizième siècle, fut correcteur dans l'imprimerie de Henri Estienne, et à l'exemple de son maître, est aussi compté parmi les lexicographes grecs. Le Lexicon graecolatinum, compilation du Thesaurus graecae linguae de Henri Estienne publié en 1572, lui valut d'être accusé de plagiat. Selon Renouard (I, 139), « la compilation écourtée de Scapula eut la fortune de beaucoup d'abrégés : bien moins chère, et en apparence d'usage plus facile, elle se vendit, se réimprima pendant que le Thesaurus restait dans le magasin de son auteur. » Il en résulta un dommage considérable pour ce dernier, tandis que Scapula rendit la science plus accessible par le bon marché auquel on se procurait son livre.
