Bei einigen Bänden sind auf dem Papier Gebrauchsspuren in Form von Unterstreichungen oder Marginalien in Bleistift sichtbar. Einband berieben, Ecken berieben, Kanten bei einzelnen Bänden auch bestoßen, Kapitale zumeist berieben, Deckel gelegentlich mit Druckspuren. Band 24 und 25 ohne Rückenschild. Bei 6 Bänden wurde der verlustig gegangene Buchrücken durch eine fotomechanische Kopie ersetzt, die in Aussehen und Anmutung den anderen Bänden gleicht und somit ein gleichförmiges, harmonisches Erscheinungsbild erzeugt. Der Gesamtumfang der Gesamtreihe sind 171 Bände, hier 146 davon, Band 1 bis 21 fehlen. Es handelt sich um eine der bekanntesten Zeitschriften der katholischen Eliten in Deutschland mit einer Auflage von 1500 bis 2000 Exemplaren, die im zweiwöchigen Rhythmus erschien, aber aufgrund der damaligen Begebenheiten einen weitaus größeren Leserkreis erreichte. Es fehlen Band 118, 161-163. Registerband von 1859 ist dabei. Band 164 liegt in Form von einzelnem Monatsheften vor, die jeweils als Broschur anzusehen sind. Nach dem Archivarexamen (1887) war er Kreisarchivsekretär in Amberg und stieg von 1889 bis 1916 zum Direktor, seit 1920 Generaldirektor des Reichsarchivs in München auf. Jochner betreute seit 1903 als Mit-, seit 1914 als Alleinherausgeber die "Historisch-Politischen Blätter für das katholische Deutschland".
