Hardback. Condizione: New. In 1918, the Church of God established a Bible training school in Cleveland, Tennessee. Meant to be the Christian training arm of the denomination, the school grew to include a high school, music school, and junior college at its campus in Sevierville, Tennessee. Following World War II, it returned to…Cleveland and took the name Lee College in honor of the second leader of the denomination and school, Reverend F. J. Lee. In Lee University, John Coats not only chronicles the history of the college but also explores the university's connection to and representation of the Church of God in the American South, offering a microcosm of an evolving evangelical denomination into the second half of the twentieth century. As a faculty member at Lee, Coats is uniquely positioned to offer an inside perspective of the institution's history, examining the people and politics that have shaped it over time. Telling the story of the school through the contributions of influential leaders, key turning points, and ongoing tensions between traditionalists and progressives within the Church of God, Lee University is an ideal resource for those interested in Appalachian religious and Pentecostal history.

Hardcover. Condizione: new. Hardcover. Planktonic protists both produce and consume most of the primary production in the world ocean. They not only play key roles in the oceans but also represent an astounding amount of diversity: ecological morphological and genetic. However, for most taxa their ecology, morphology, phylogeny…and biogeography are either poorly known or appear to be largely unrelated to one another; this hinders our understanding of their biology as well as interpretation of emerging genetic data. Tintinnid ciliates represent a singular exception. Compared to nearly all other groups of planktonic protists, there is a very substantial and relatively detailed literature (both modern and historical) on tintinnids. This volume synthesizes knowledge concerning a wide variety of topics ranging from anatomy and systematics, physiology, behavior, ecology (including ecological roles, predators, parasites, biogeography, and cysts) to fossil history. It will appeal to an audience ranging from advanced undergraduates to researchers in the fields of Oceanography, Marine Biology and Microbial Ecology. Although planktonic protists play an important role in ocean ecology, they are genetically very diverse, making it difficult to draw conclusions on the group as a whole. However, tintinnid ciliates are a single, species-rich, sub-order with unique characteristics, and for whom ample information exists on their ecology and biogeography. Shipping may be from multiple locations in the US or from the UK, depending on stock availability.

[160] pages : music ; 20 cm LCCN unk84156739 LC M2198.B33 C45 ; pictorial stiff paper wrappers ; hymns in shape-note notation ; Jesse Randall (J.R.) Baxter Jr., gospel music composer and publisher, was born on December 8, 1887, in Lebanon, Alabama. The "Sand Mountain native" was a prolifi…c song composer and co-founder of the Stamps-Baxter Music Company. He was known as "Pap" to his close friends. He learned the fundamentals of harmony and gospel music from T. B. Mosley and A. J. Showalter, and began teaching while he was still a student. He subsequently learned hymn writing from James Rowe, Charles H. Gabriel, and others. By 1943 he had composed more than 500 songs; by the time of his death his song lyrics numbered in the thousands. Several gospel quartets were named for him. As a publisher, he put out thousands of songs and sold hundreds of thousands of songbooks. Numerous singers and directors learned from him. In 1926 he and V. O. Stamps started the Stamps-Baxter Company, which had offices in Chattanooga, Tennessee; Jacksonville, Texas; and, later, Pangburn, Arkansas. Stamps-Baxter, which published hymnals and sponsored traveling quartets and radio programs, grew to be the world's largest gospel music business. After Stamps died in 1940 Baxter moved the business headquarters to Dallas and became president and general manager, a position he held until his death on January 21, 1960.
