Vor der Küste von Florida ist Hub Lawless spurlos von seiner Luxusjacht verschwunden: angeblich ertrunken. Doch keiner glaubt so recht daran. Weder Van Harder, der Kapitän der Jacht, der schuldlos in die Affäre verwickelt wird noch die Gesellschaft, bei der Hub Lawless sein Leben für 2 Millionen Dollar versichert hat. Als Kapitän Van Harder Hilfe bei seinem alten Freund Travis Mc Gere sucht, schafft er damit für alle Beteiligten nur neue Probleme.
