This book was published in the same year (1954) that…John Enders, Thomas Weller, and Frederick Robbins shared the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine "for their discovery of the ability of poliomyelitis viruses to grow in cultures of various types of tissue." Weller's paper is "The Diagnosis of Viral Infections Employing Tissue Culture Methods" (pp. 334-347). John Enders, Thomas Weller, and Frederick Robbins shared the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1954 "for their discovery of the ability of poliomyelitis viruses to grow in cultures of various types of tissue." "The Symposium was sponsored by the Henry Ford Hospital, Detroit, Michigan and held at the Hospital October 21, 22 and 23, 1953." Among the many eminent contributors to the Symposium are: Nobel laureates in 1969 A. D. Hershey and S. E. Luria; and the polio vaccine creators Jonas E. Salk and Albert B. Sabin.
