Aggiungi al carrelloHardcover. Condizione: Good. 1st Edition. 1847 first edition. Volume 1. This is the large folio 18x24 inches. Modern binding with modern endpapers. Complete with 30 plates using Tinted Lithography. Later volumes and issues used chromolithography and have more intricately colored plates. This version comes in two types: tinted li…thography and hand-colored images by the artists. The hand colored images cost beaucoup bucks. The tinted versions are accessible to mere mortals. If you are on a budget and want color pictures for less money go for the later editions and issues. If you are seeking true first editions then here you have it. This volume is complete with 116 pages text and 30 plates including the half title. Condition is Good to Very Good: modern binding is quarter leather with marbled boards and new endpapers. Some image margins have pencil notes of image size as if they were planning to break this up for individual framing. Most lower outer corner have finger smudges in the margins. Page 61 has a handprint (fresh from a newspaper no doubt) in the margin. Some images have foxing in the margins but not in the image. The last five images have tea stains in the upper and outer margins not affecting the image. The images are free of all of this tomfoolery. The cover sheets look to have been moved around or tampered with. Some have been cut. Perhaps in preparation for the breakdown of this volume that never happened. It is now irrelevant. They could be removed since offprinting will not happen at this late date. Complete sets of this first edition volume are uncommon. I cannot locate one in WorldCat. Later issues and editions are much more common. There are also quarto editions. This is a very cool book. It has some defects that should not detract from the central point of this book which is the images. Feel free to inquire. Please see images of the book you will receive. Notes: The tinted lithography has tones of sepia, cream and blue-gray best seen in the initial image. The half title has the book title at top and the artists names in the columns. The final image shows the worst of the stain. [history]. David Roberts; Joseph Nash; J. D. Harding; etc. (illustratore).
