Aggiungi al carrelloSoft cover. Condizione: Good. January 5, 1813. "Re-printed by order of the House of Representatives." This is a reprint of the Senate document of July 6, 1812, verbatim but for cover page dates, reference to House of Reps, and date given on 1st document in both versions (Jefferson letter to Pinckney, given as June 11, 1792 in or…iginal; July 11, 1792 in this doc). Paged differently: 54 in original; 50 in this doc. 6 gatherings of 4 leaves each, 1 gathering of 2 leaves; side-stabbed; untrimmed fore and tail edges; unopened at top edge. Very clean, no foxing; small number in contemporary ink at head of page 25, otherwise clean interior; remnants of old thread binding present but no longer bound. CF, OCLC #426073008 & Harvard/Hollis #004271400, both citing Shaw & Shoemaker #30261; apparently not in Greely. From President Madison to the Senate immediately following US declaration of war with Britain. Madison, under attack by Federalists, produced these documents from preceding 20 years showing the continuing problem of British illegal impressment of seamen. With the exception of few 1792 documents from Jefferson (as Sec of State for Washington), all documents were by arch-Federalist leaders: Th. Pickering, Oliver Wolcott, Rufus King, Th. Pinckney, John Jay, John Marshall & few others.

Aggiungi al carrello8vo, pp. 84; removed from binding, wrappers wanting; text is lightly spotted and toned; all else very good. This is the issue with the erratum at the end of p. 84. Interesting document which argues that many of the impressed "American seamen" were not Americans at all, but rather "Englishmen, Irishmen, or other subjects of Great… Britain," and that others had "voluntarily entered into the British service and received bounty and pay." Includes dispositions by Isaac Clark, John Eldridge, Eben Parsons, William Parsons, Caleb Loring, Moses Townsend, William Bainbridge, an many others. The House Committee was chaired by John Pickering. American Imprints 29094; Sabin 46029.
