Arzt. Gehörte zu den ersten Anhängern Jakob Böhmes in England u. erweiterte dessen Theosophie durch eigene Visionen. Durch seine Werke beeinflusste er u.a. Gichtel u. den deutschen Pietismus. "Im Wesentlichen ist es der Cabbalismus, welchen Pordage nur unter eigenthümlichen Bildern und in der Sprache der mystischen Verzückung aufstellt, gerade wie man sie in Böhme's Schrift antrifft" (Jöcher/Adelung VI, 654). Pordage wurde von der englischen Geistlichkeit über den "Verkehr mit bösen Geistern", "Blasphemie", "Teufeleien" u. skandalöses Benehmen angeklagt, worauf er mit seiner Verteidigungsschrift "Independence appearing" antwortete. Doch die Klagen nahmen nicht ab u. dauerten von 1651 bis 1655 an. Jane Leade (1623-1704), die Gründerin der "Philadelphian Society", lernte er 1663 kennen u. wurde später Mitglied dieser Bewegung. - Einband leicht fleckig; Innendeckel mit Stempel von Heinrich Tränker* u. wie der Vorsatz mit seinen Anmerkungen u.a.: "Ausserst selten!", "Sehr wichtig S.364-416, Zauberei"; zweites Blatt mit Stempel von Robert Petroschka** u. einem Vermerk; tlw. leicht fleckig, mit seltenen Kürzeln u. einer Randanmerkung bei "Von der finsteren Magia" (S.364), sonst ein gutes Expl. - *H.
